Although there is not much information on how to approach or pick up on subtle cues at an event, I have some personal techniques that may increase your overall success.

I will start by recommending to come early and start establishing connections beforehand. Although, a drink may help with cutting the edge off (nervousness), I would recommend to set a limit to your drinking. One of my greatest non verbal cues that I use before approaching a couple is to make eye contact. Keep the eye contact subtle, you don’t have to engage in a stare down. Doing this correctly will not only communicate interest but also displays a level of comfort. If making eye contact is something that feels uncomfortable, pick another focal point, maybe above the brow for instance. At this point, a playful smile would be a nice touch or a slow look away and glance back. At this point it would be ok to approach the couple and introduce yourself. Keep it simple, “Hi, how are you? I’m John, and this is my wife Jackie.” Keep the pace of the conversation relaxed and not rushed. Maintain the momentum by asking questions, “So is this your first visit to the club? Do you live in the area”? Maybe bring up the lifestyle, “So how long have you been in the lifestyle? Is this your first visit to a swingers club?” The structure of the conversation should be similar to any other starter topic. Remember to keep the conversation brief, especially if they seem interested. This will not only will this help maintain interest, it will also display confidence. Leave the conversation on a friendly note, perhaps “it was our pleasure to meet you, we hope to see you latter tonight”.
