Moving your way, how do we avoid being insufferable?
Post Body

Hi, Twin Cities!

My family and I are planning on moving to the area next summer and as a generally anxious being, I'd really like to hit the ground...softly.

My husband's father's family is from Minnesota, but we've been in Montana for a generation. As such, we understand how awful it is to have an influx of out-of-staters moving in and making things harder and more expensive. We'd really like to avoid being a problem, and would also like to soften the landing as much as possible for the kids - especially our middle schoolers.

Is there anything we should try our best to do or not do as we make our plans? Anything you really hate seeing from new residents, or things that made newbies easier to accept into the community? Anything we should know about the culture before we go making assholes of ourselves in front of our new neighbors?

Thanks!
