A Reminder of Island Etiquette
Post Body

Hi everyone! Hope everything is going well on your end and you're winning the stonks game. I thought I'd make this post as a reminder to the community about island etiquette. While most users here are generally very polite, get in, get out, and do not disturb other islanders, I've been seeing, and receiving modmail, of more and more posts and comments about rudeness, stealing, lack of tipping (when the user said they would), and comments that have been complaining about the host not getting to them with a dodo.

FOR VISITORS:

  1. The OP/host is doing the hosting as a courtesy. It is very hard when they have a high price and kindly asked to be DM'ed and get an influx of messages. They get to you if they get to you. It is very tiring hosting and making sure things go smoothly, no one is lingering, and no one is stealing or trampling your flowers (among other things).
  2. To make the selling experience quick and easy for everyone, please get in and get out. Drop you turnips, gather your bells, tip, and get out. If the host says other areas on their island are open (talking to their villagers, fishing, Able's) then of course, stick around.
  3. Repeated messaging for dodo code. This should go without saying, but please be patient. One message is enough.
  4. Rudeness: This is all encompassing for A LOT of things, like trampling over flowers, shaking trees, taking fruit, or saying rule things to the host. Don't do it. I encourage hosts who experience this to message the mod team and we will handle it. Please provide any screenshots you can.
  5. Lack of tipping. If you say you are going to tip, then tip. It's a little scummy when you tell the host you will tip, even worse if you tell them you will leave a HUGE tip, to get them to give the dodo to you faster, and then don't. Don't be that person.
  6. Stealing. If the host says anything they leave on the ground is up for grabs, then that's OK. If they say nothing, don't answer your question asking, then it's safe to assume it's not okay to take. This also applies to the back items in Nook's and flowers. You're visiting to sell turnips, not buy out their Nook's.

FOR HOSTS:

  1. Saying in the body of your post what is and is not off limits (if they are allowed to visit other shops, talk to villagers, fish, catch bugs, etc.)
  2. Blocking off certain areas of your island except for Nooks with either shrubs or fences. I recommend fences as you can easily take them down.
  3. Using any turnip queue site to handle your influx of visitors. Of course, this is completely up to you, you don't have to.
  4. Keeping track of who messages you and who misbehaves (if possible - this is so you can share the user name with the mod team).
  5. Changing the dodo code intermittently.
  6. Buying out your stock at Nook's before you open your island, and putting any stuff lying around in your inventory, or also fencing it off.
  7. Ending the session the second you see any behavior you do not like. Don't feel bad doing this. If they didn't follow your rules, you are in the right to enforce your island rules.

I hope those who are still new to hosting and visiting learn from this post and we see less instances of bad visitors. All it takes is one bad experience for the host and then they never want to host again. Let's continue to make this community a great one! If anyone has more, or better ideas, please share!
