I am a Turk who didnât grow up in Turkey so I really donât understand this ever. My parents are also more or less minimalists so we had a very Scandinavian interior growing up. I just want to understand why every interior I see in Turkey is so over the top to the point the rooms are all furniture and 0 space to breathe. The âyeni gelin eviâ concept is one that makes me not want to marry at all. I want a minimalist home with enough space between furniture that would let me run around the house if I need to. Donât even let me get started on the interiors drowned in pink, brown, lavender and blue/gold colors.
I just donât understand it especially given that these furniture types are literally always more expensive than simpler IKEA style furniture. They are also so hard to move. My grandma has furniture like this and almost broke her back trying to move a single seater couch.
Why do you need to stuff a low ceiling apartment with Louis XVI tackiness and then struggle to get any guest tables out when you want to give them tea? I just donât understand it especially because Turkey has such a large amount of interior design students. Make it make sense. The amount of home interiors I saw where Turks have furniture not found outside of the Palace of Versailles is beyond me and it doesnât look rich it just looks tacky and impostor-esque.
See example pic in the link. I included a photo that is less obnoxious but still looks horrendous because there is no space left to breathe at all since everything is so damn chunky. Anyone ever understood why? Gen Z and Millenial Turks will you design your homes similar to your parents? Why? If not also why?
I'm from Netherlands. Not judging or criticising but this is similar to what I thought when I first visit my Turkish wife's family house. Too many furniture.
