I donā€™t speak Turkish, so will have to write in English.

I find Turkish to be a beautiful language, so I watch a lot of Turkish TV/movies. I usually sit on the couch and watch w/ the subtitles on, but have been doing a lot of cooking this week, so switched to ā€œwatchingā€ on my laptop w/ the dubbing on in the kitchen, so I donā€™t have to my eyes glued to the screen every second.

What Iā€™ve noticed, however, is that the English subtitles donā€™t match the English dubbing a lot of the time. I mean, sometimes itā€™s just one word thatā€™ll be different and the two words will be so close in English anyway, I can see how some one working from a dictionary might just pick the wrong word. Other times, however, the entire sentence will be different, like, really different.

Iā€™m super curious about this. Does anyone work in subtitles/dubbing and can explain to me how it works? I think (?) that the people who insert the subtitles must have a different script than the voice actors for the dubbing, but that idea is just kinda wild to me. Itā€™s the only think I can think of though to explain how some sentences are completely different betw the two.
