The characters we see during this time period all seem to be literate and multilingual. I understand that spelling conventions are not as standardized as they are today. Did the people of this time period have a strong opinion of how things should be spelled or were they completely indifferent ?
Was Catherine confident her name had a C and not a K ? Would Anne have understood her name had a βeβ at the end or would βAnnβ been sufficient ? I kind of enjoy the image of some of the people of this era arguing seriously about how to spell their own names π
