Okay, so I’m just going to be up front. I HATE that I have to almost “prove” my blackness to black people. I’m mixed (Black/ El Salvadorian) and I grew up in very diverse communities due to my parents being military. But the one thing that always seemed to stick was that I wasn’t black enough. Oh my outfits aren’t black enough, or one that pisses me off is that I don’t talk “black” because I apparently speak like white people. Do you know how fucking retarded that sounds? Basically you’re saying black people have to talk “ghetto” or “hood” and white people talk proper.
Then another things I get looked at is my music taste. Now I love rap don’t get me wrong, but it’s not my only genre of music. I like Jazz, Classical, Pop, and even Tejano. But because I’m not blasting music that goes “I be fucking my hoes in different area codes” I’m not with it. It’s annoying and tedious when you get labeled “not black enough”. When did this become a thing? Why is it even a thing? I especially get tired of being labeled “white” because of how I talk, act, dress, or present myself. All you do is empower white people by saying “All good things are white. And all bad things are black”. At least that’s how it comes across to me.
