Over and over I’ve heard people quote the colloquialism “Everything happens for a reason.” We use it to comfort ourselves in times of distress or reassure ourselves in hindsight as to why things have turned out the way they have., albeit positively or negatively.
Personally, I don’t agree with this sentiment. I think saying it to someone is borderline cruel in some contexts. “Sorry this terrible thing happened but just remember it’s all for a good reason.”
Again, I get the aspect of comfort and hope behind the ideology, but I can’t sign up with destiny being the reason for everything happening, good and bad.
