easily the most iconic scene in a few good men is colonel jessup's infamous rant towards the end of the movie, including the iconic line "you can't handle the truth". however, the speech also involves jessup talking about how, because of the nature of army work, the marines should not be held accountable for what they do. it is downright terrifying that someone in his position thinks that way. but you know what's even scarier? the fact that some people who view the movie actually fucking AGREE with him!
obviously, these people haven't been paying attention to the play/movie. a few good men makes it abundantly clear that you should not be agreeing with anything jessup says. he is a misogynistic asshole who thinks that anyone who isn't nathan jessup is below him. this is the dude who ignored orders from his superior which resulted in the death of one of his subordinates. do you really think that you should be agreeing with THIS GUY!
not to mention, what i said earlier wasn't entirely accurate. he doesn't think that marines should not be held accountable. he thinks that HE shouldn't be held accountable. although dawson and downey were definitely wrong to kill santiago, jessup is the one who ordered them to do it. and when santiago dies, jessup does not hesitate to throw them under the bus.
of course, this misconception probably stems from so many people watching the movie and not watching the play. in the play, kaffee has a speech that was cut from the movie where he basically explains to jessup why everything he said was wrong. however, not many people have seen the play so that might have something to do with it.
however, this should be taken as a lesson that just because a character is complex doesn't mean they're right.
