Every Star Wars fan has heard the arguments. The Galactic Republic was a corrupt bureaucracy that prioritized the business interests of large corporations and the needs of the core worlds over less important worlds in the mid and outer rims and committed numerous war crimes such as the forcing of clones to fight on their behalf and faking surrenders.
Counter point the CIS was also corrupt bureaucracy that was ironically run by the exact same corporations as the Republic (The Seperatist Council had no real power) Rather than simply allowing systems to choose freely between the Confederacy and the Republic they would attempt coerce worlds like Rodia and flat out invade other worlds like Ryloth and attack their civilian populations. They even used civilian populations of neutral worlds to test out new weapons. When Cinfederate worlds such as Onderon decided they no longer wished to be part of the CIS they were occupied by battle droids and resistance suppressed. Further more the B1 Battle Droids were every bit as sentient as the Republics clone troopers and thus the slave soldier argument applies equally. Not only that but there were literal slave based economies that sided with the CIS. I could go on and on
They weren't "the good" guys but it bears pointing out that the sheer enthusiasm with which the heroes defended the Old Republic was hilarious to say the least.
