Hold the hate brakes. I am a veteran myself.
I'm completely for GI Bill, VA benefits, and disability for those who deserve it. By all means let's take care of our vets. I think we do a pretty good job in this country, more than I've seen or heard about in other countries. I know several vets who have no debt due to the GI Bill, are on 30-100% disability for various things on top of their work check, AND get VA Healthcare without paying a dime. Good for them. I use the VA for my healthcare too.
My problem is the entitlement attitude about it. Apart from Vietnam Vets no-one made you sign up. You volunteered. My hats off to you but no-one made you do it. Quit acting like the world owes you something. You got a paycheck, free food, free lodging, free healthcare. If you going to whine about the pay or work environment, save it and put away that violin. You knew that going in and now want to play the victim.
I lost it when some entitled clown at the VA today was ripping the poor lady at reception for something that was not her fault. It's not the first time I've seen that behavior. Have some gratitude. Have some humility. Whatever happened to the quiet professional. Not everything is about you. There are a lot of people who are not American veterans who have done much more courageous and challenging things than me or any other vets I know. Non vets you're grateful. Cool. I'm grateful for the paycheck and all the benefits. It's an exchange of services. Not everyone is cut out for Marine infantry. I sure as hell am not cut out to be a doctor.
Veterans have joined the several other groups of people in this country trying to talk tough but playing victims at the same time to further their agendas. It saddens and embarrasses me. I swear to god the next self righteous Navy SEAL who writes a book about how their shit doesn't stink.
This post is long enough. Happy to clarify anything in comments.
