We get it. Everyone in the word hates tip culture and thinks the US is a hell hole for having it. That’s fine, most Americans probably agree to some degree. What’s not cool is coming to the US, going out to fine dining and quality service establishments, and deciding to protest it by not tipping the wait staff even though you know it’s expected.
Nobody cares how dumb you think giving your waiter $5 for refilling your drink is, it’s expected and if you can afford to travel here it means you can afford to show the waiter some gratitude. If you have a problem with it then tell it off to the manager (but he’s probably just some salaried employee as well so it won’t do you any good.)
I’m just so sick of seeing the dozens of posts every day of Europeans bragging about not tipping in the US. You guys aren’t cool and changing the culture, you’re a dick that just shunted a working mom out of a portion of her grocery bill or a college student out part of their rent. Love it that these are the same Europeans that brag about how much better they are than Americans for observing local customs and not being “that tourist”.
