I've noticed that mainly in the older religious generation, many people (my parents included) believe that world is so increasingly bad and evil that the second coming of Jesus must be upon us.
This thought process never made sense to me because if Jesus didn't come back during transatlantic slave trade, the crusades, the holocaust, WWI & WWII, etc etc then what would press him to come so hastily now? This is no disrespect to religion or Jesus but it's just a lack of objectivity.
While acknowledging the existence of evil and injustice still present in the world, it's important to recognize that we are currently at the pinnacle of advancement, openness, and acceptance in society. We've made unprecedented strides towards equitable rights for all individuals. Throughout history, egregious acts such as killing women for being r@ped and pregnant, murdering individuals for their sexual orientation, enduring widespread famine, plagues, diseases, and lacking access to medical care were all commonplace. The sheer magnitude of suffering experienced by the majority of people cannot be understated.
We are currently living in a time of remarkable progress and inclusivity. Most people, in the developed World at least, live their days safe and sound. To suggest that the world is worse off now than it has ever been is both mind-blowing and frustrating!!!
