Overall I think the second part was far worse than the first one and it was a mediocre film as a whole. Anyway the end was really shocking and unexpected and it made me think a lot.

First of all it was true that Joe subconsciously didn't want to kill Jerome and P. Joe was s a very selfish character, almost incapable of feeling true love. The only exception in her life was Jerome though. But she wasn't a cold hearted bitch at all. Joe wanted to repel her sins multiple times - tried with therapy and some form of sadomasochism inflicted on her by K. The reaction of Jerome after the gun didn't fire was expected and totally normal in some way. The whole situation with their kid and her sleeping with multiple men, because of her addiction, were things he was not able to forget or forgive.

The reaction of P though was very unexpected and strange. After Jerome beat Joe very bad she invited him to have sex with her. At one side that was jealousy, because P understood that Joe loved Jerome far more than her. From another perspective P probably knew of Joe's nymphomaniac past and wanted to show her that she can be as bad as her and why not fuck everyone she wanted. P also pissed on Joe after the sex as a total humiliation act. I don't have a good explanation of that though. Just seemed like a revenge for her trying to kill them.

So we go to the end scene with Joe and Seligman. They part themselves as close friends and go to sleep. Then at one point Seligman who proclaimed himself to be virgin and asexual goes to bed and tries to fuck her, but with a limp dick in his hand. Joe says no and he answers "But you have fucked thousands of men". Joe then shoots him and run away. Joe did that, because she really believed the good intentions of Seligman and liked him a lot. Throughout the whole film she was never sexually assaulted by men, all the sex she did was because she wanted it. This was her first sexual assault and it was done by a person, who she trusted a lot. That's why she kills him.

Also with the assault done by Seligman, von Trier clearly states that he does not believe in asexuality. Obviously he believes all men are potential sexual predators and want to have sex, although some can't like Seligman because of impotency or like the pedophile who suppressed his urges, showed earlier in the film.
