I think Dune 2 wasn't that good (spoilers)
Post Body

I was sorta sitting here, thinking about how people will continuously get things wrong in the same way, over and over. Back when Dune was written, a bunch of people honestly thought that Paul was meant to be a hero's hero, and nowadays, the right is full of people praising it as a "family movie". Sure.

But when I looked at the changes that the movie itself did to some of the characters...I mean, Paul went from a failure whose character arc was about realizing that, do or don't, he is helpless to stop the change that will come, because men is weaker than collective forces. But here we turned his mom evil so that she could brainwash Fremen because...I guess one person can influence a group of people, lol?

Baron's sexual abuse towards boys was downplayed, so I guess we can only do that towards women; it wasn't like Chani had to be Paul's concubine, but her running away "because fuck you Paul" was just childish and a disservice to a character - she could've understood why Paul was doing what he was doing, but still chose to reject it, but I guess they wanted their "yas queen" moment; Feyd went from actually somewhat sympathetic to just someone's wet dream of what serial killer is like.

It's sorta fascinating how, at every opportunity, narratively, this movie made a wrong choice at every step; not only is it bad in itself, but it is also a huge disservice as far as original story goes. Once again, core theme of the story was inability of one individual to fight against societal forces - for the movie to just go against that. Like, I am not surprised that libs don't understand political analysis, but still; the only character who was done "right" is probably Rabban, ironically enough? I really don't want them to adopt any further, because they will 100% mess up Worm Emperor, but I have a feeling this is where we are going.
