As a support, when should I buy solar crest?

I'm crusader 4 hard support main. When should I buy solar crest? In most games, it seems like it's almost never a bad idea to get glimmer, force, atos or euls because they're so versatile in any match up, especially against physical damage when you'd think solar crest would be better. I also watch random pro dota matches and they seem to favor solar crest over the above-mentioned items too.
