What criteria are important for choosing a TC podcast?
Post Body

I'm in the early stages of working on something that may benefit TC podcast fans, essentially a (very) crude recommendation tool. What I'm looking for now is feedback on what are major, mostly objective criteria you use to choose a TC podcast. In scraping threads here I've started a list of things people commonly cite when asking for recommendations or things that seem to turn people off from certain podcasts:

  1. Whether podcast is devoted to one case (serial), covers one case per season, or mostly different cases each episode (episodic)

  2. Whether podcast is mostly focused on presenting/reviewing a case, discussing a case, or is actively investigating a case & trying to uncover new evidence

  3. Whether the case is solved or unsolved/unresolved (this one is tricky...)

  4. If there is banter or not (i.e., multiple hosts going back and forth)

  5. If it is taking a comedic approach or not

  6. If the focus is on murder, missing person, other crime, or all of the above

Obviously I can't account for every single factor that determines why someone would choose to listen to a podcast, and it's hard to sort on more individualized opinions even though sometimes those are the biggest factors (e.g., people find host annoying/unlistenable, whether or not someone finds the podcast's approach respectful or distasteful).

My current questions...

  1. Would you use a tool like this, or does this sound like a stupid waste of time? (I won't be hurt...I really don't have spare time for this but can't get the idea out of my head)
  2. Do the existing categories seem sound? Are there other major (largely objective) categories you typically use to pick podcasts, or see other people citing when they ask for recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your insights.
