Is it selfish to feel joy in helping others?
Post Body

Hey everyone! I could use some help with something that’s been on my mind. Yesterday, I had a conversation with a friend about how much I love giving back to the community and helping those in need. It’s something that truly brings me joy and comes from the heart. I also expressed that I don’t boast or show off when I do it because I know that’s not the right attitude to have. I genuinely try to help without drawing attention to myself. And even after helping out, i don’t go praising myself inside my heart.

During our conversation, my friend mentioned that because I said I love doing it and it makes me happy, it could be seen as selfish, or even sinful. He said that my happiness in helping others might make it more about me than the act of giving itself.

I was really confused by that. Why would feeling joy in helping others make it wrong? I want to understand what he meant but we couldn’t finish our conversation, so I’m turning to you for insight. If you could share your thoughts, including any relevant Bible verses, I’d appreciate it. I’m open to different perspectives and constructive criticism.
