I’ve been debating this topic in my head for a while now.
Catholicism has to be:
(1)a relationship between an individual and his creator
Or
(2)a relationship between a people and their creator
It simply has to be one or the other. It’s one extreme or the other it cannot be both nor can it be something in between.
If one’s relationship with God is to be personal (1) then he should be indifferent to the outside world. He will attain salvation by following the commandments, doing good deeds and having faith. People around may as well not exist.
If one’s relationship with God is part of a collective movement (2) then everything that is good must be performed a maximum amount of time. For example if we are called to feed the poor then we must logically feed as many poor people as we physically can and anything less is morally wrong by virtue of not being perfect. If stealing is bad then any amount of stealing done in existence is a collective bad and is the responsibility of the people as a whole. If we are called to spread faith then the fact that we are not mass producing neuralinks for the sole purpose of imposing faith into every being’s mind is a failure on the part of all of us as a collective.
My point is that the implications of political Catholicism are beyond reasonable expectations.
