In my country, religion is present in very much every house. But unlike the U.S., here they don't really read the bible and don't know much about it. It is not a base for decisions.
For instance when debating about gay marriage, arguments are usually focused on gayness being a disease, gay parenting is harmful and social bullying. But religion is never/rarely referenced. In terms of abortion the debate is always focused on wether or not it's a person and is it murder or not.
However they do use religion much for celebrations and general pleading, e.g., asking for a safe trip, for a loved one to get better, for love, etc. On facebook i see many "god is all loving and we should be thankful" posts, which encited me to post some logical discrepancies in religion which some may seem as attacking. But then I wondered, is it necessary? They are good people, and usually only refer to religion when they are scared, so, should I, as always, simply turn a deaf ear on that area or would trying to convert them have a benefit?
