I have this ‘friend’, more of an acquaintance that I’ve become fascinated with. She’s a queer anarchist with diagnosed BPD who found out she’s Jewish like 2-4 years ago in middle age. I assume that means she wasn’t raised Jewish but I’m scared to ask her. She has taken to her newfound race with the zeal of a convert. I don’t read Hebrew so I didn’t know her name for the first year after meeting her. I feel like this is the place where I can finally, mostly anonymously, express my bewilderment. All that both sides (focus on the Israeli side) stuff driving us all insane coming from the standard issue libs plus, like, Jewish stolen valor with the acknowledgment that what is happening in Gaza is genocide but stopping every post or two to remind everyone that Hamas is bad and that talking to your Jewish friends or asking them about the things they say/post/put on signs is EMOTIONAL LABOR. I just don’t understand the headspace you gotta be in to make a genocide about yourself. Anyway, she also went after a local comic for making a dad-pun she considered antisemitic. And, most recently, a cryptic post informing all of her friends that if she disappears from your social media feeds it’s because you did something antisemitic and she’s got screenshots to send to your boss. Wild times.
