Leveling kit - the right way

Hello folks! I wanted to get my truck a leveling kit for X'mas, and I am a bit confused. From what I see on the internet, they appear to just be spacers that you install in the front end, however I also see a lot of articles about them not being right and screwing other components. Also they talk about cheap and expensive kits. Anyone has any prior experience getting your truck leveled? How did it end?
