Traveling to Hermiston OR

As the title above states. My load is going to Hermiston OR. I'm traveling north on I5. My GPS wants me to take US 97 when I get to weed California. Its 619 miles. There's another route where I stay on I5 north till i get to I84 East, but this route is 727 miles.
I've learned before that just because the route has less miles doesnt mean it's any quicker. So I'm wondering if anybody has ever driven down US97 in OR. Would it be any quicker, or should I stick to the interstate?
