I'm hoping to get some feedback or opinions about this. I am asking specifically about OTR because I understand it's different if you're home every week or have a predictable account you're on.
I've always done a reset at the end of the week and assumed that was the best way to run since you're literally driving 3 more hours a day. However, last week I got screwed over by a shipper and had to drive on the day I'm usually resetting in order to make an appointment. My goal was just to make it until today running recaps and make decent miles and reset on Saturday.
However, I've actually done 3200 miles this week which is basically what I do on resets but the difference is huge. I get way more downtime, I'm not stressing about my hours, I never have an issue finding parking and feel like I have way more control over my schedule.
What I'm really hoping to get feedback on is how sustainable this is. I can't think of any scenario where I could be screwed over by recaps. I've also done the math and I lose the potential to do about 300 miles a week? However, I don't think I've ever run 11 hours a day for 6 days straight, there's always an appointment or something to wait on. Anybody else do this? See any issues with it?
TLDR: what are your opinions on doing recaps as an OTR driver. Pros? Cons?
