I’m currently with Schneider (don’t laugh I had to start somewhere) on a van account- for the last. 6months. .52/mile which isn’t great but I also make an extra $2,000/month in bonuses so it’s not bad for my first driving job. I have my tanker and recently got my Hazmat license.
I inquired about moving to their tanker division. Of the two positions:
1-home daily, local, hauling chemicals for $25/hr plus I think $20/unload pay
2: home weekly (5/2), regional, also hauling chemicals for .42/mile. And like $12/unload pay
Either one would be a pay cut as I would loose $600/month in bonus money. But those pays, especially .42/mile seem extremely low- especially for Hazmat.
Is this where I need to start to get my tanker/hazmat experience or are the other companies out there willing to take you with only van experience that pay more?
I have been doing research so it’s not like I’m a complete idiot I just don’t see many options with no experience in that area.
Was hoping someone could let me know if I should be looking at a certain company or if this is just the process I need to go through to get to something better. My goal is fuel delivery or CO2.
Thank you to anyone willing to help me out with answers or even words or wisdom.
