Hi all, I have been a lover of climbing trees since a kid. I used to live with a 70' redwood in the backyard, but the lowest branch was about 15' up. Solution, of course, was a rope climb.
I got some pretty thin rope from REI but I also needed gloves because there is no way I'm going to hold on I need something really sticky. I decided on some cheap gardening gloves that are super sticky grip on the palms and inside of the fingers.
I would also bring the rope with me out and about and when I spotted a tree otherwise unclimbable could just toss the rope up (maybe one end weighted with a nalgene bottle) and then put the gloves on and as long as I had decent footwear up I would go. Once up the first lowest limb then the rest is easy like ladder climbing. Total noob here and not in perfect shape but lots of fun.
I recently was in Reno and climbing a tree on a street near my friend's house and when I came down I went too fast and the rope pulled frictioning through the gloves and tearing the surface. No damage to my fingers thank you gloves, but the gloves are now done.
So I'm looking for a replacement pair of gloves that are sticky sticky sticky but more durable than the makeshift gardening gloves I had before. I'm looking around online and a lot of the "rope climbing" is on really thick ropes in crossfit etc where you don't really need gloves or people are using basic bouldering gloves. I need gloves for thin rope and they need to be sticky so I can hold myself up with hands and a footlock, and then pull up just gripping the rope.
Any recommendations?
tl'dr
glove recommendation: durable, super sticky for thin rope
THANKS
