I have a trip to Jamaica booked in December (flying out of Cleveland OH). Originally my flight was MBJ to MIA with a 2-hour layover before flying MIA to CLE. I was just notified the connecting flight is now moved back 6 hours, resulting in an 8 hour layover and a return home of after midnight when it had been just after 6PM.
From what I understand, if I choose to cancel the flight entirely and rebook I’m entitled to a full refund, but that’s not a great option because there aren’t many suitable flights with ANY airline. They’re all more expensive than the refund I’d be getting so I’d be out money AND time to rebook.
What are my other options? Can I get compensation for my time while still keeping my original tickets? I mean, it’s a pretty drastic increase in layover time and I don’t think it’s fair for me to just eat it in both the inconvenience AND the additional food and beverage expenses I’ll incur.
Any other thoughts or suggestions? Any are much appreciated.
