How do I politely ask a family member if I can visit and stay with them?

I’m thinking of going to DC for a few days in June and my uncle lives out there. Mainly I just want to do my own thing out there, but I’d like a place to sleep and hang out with them when they can as long as I’m not imposing on their personal lives.
How can I ask them if that’s ok?
