The phrase "stochastic terrorism" conveys the idea that you can increase the likelihood of a terrorist attack through your speech or behaviors. Promoting hateful conspiracies, doxxing specific individuals, glorifying violent acts or events, all of these can be considered acts of stochastic terrorism. The result of these actions will be for someone out there to do something, you don't know who or what, you didn't command an attack, you merely helped shape an environment that makes it much more likely to happen.
I understand that a lot of the people here were groomed or abused by specific individuals, but I'm wondering if any of you have experienced what I'm tentatively going to call "stochastic grooming". I think there must be a grooming effect of constantly, being exposed to violent pornography, and interacted with by (mostly older male) perverts online. It's not one particular person who caused trauma, instead it's a series of unrelated people, disconnected experiences with anonymous individuals who disappear just as intangibly as they appeared.
There must be an entire generation of you who have grown up in this environment and who have a severely warped idea of men, relationships, sex, without ever having experienced any "typical" forms of abuse. Do you exist? What is it like? Would you make a distinction between what I've described and the well-established idea of social and cultural pressures? Or are they both one and the same thing, and there's nothing new that merits a new name?
I would like for there to be some discussion in the comments. I'll probably just read them, I don't have much of value to add.
