I'm interested in a career on the railroad, but the lifestyle sounds like it can take a toll on your health. The railroad must really screw up your circadian rhythm, and your body's natural sleep/wake cycle being on-call at all hours. Ten hours of rest between turns also doesn't sound like very much considering you have to drive home, eat, unwind, do household things/hobbies, and errands. Before you know it, your phone will be ringing again. Getting 8-9 hours of actual sleep sounds difficult. How do you maintain a healthy diet? You're also eating at irregular times. I guess the best thing is to pack healthy meals and snacks with you.
