Net Profit vs Buy/Hold (newbie question)

Post Body
Just getting started with TV/back testing/more actively managing my 401k. Just to make sure I understand backtest results, does net profit include initial capital? What about Buy and Hold $/%? I'm thinking I need to add $100k for initial capital to my net profit to be comparable to buy and hold in the results?
Also, if someone doesn't mind answering more newbie questions like this, I'd gladly make it worth your time!
