Hello group!
I have a bit of a situation and was wondering if anyone can assist me in pinpointing a specific issue. I already narrowed it down a lot, just need some extra guidance at this point!
Situation:
ATT 1 GIG Fiber, Deco X5700 Set up as access points. Ring Stickup Cams can't connect to WIFI when Fast Roaming is ON. They connect as soon as I set Fast Roaming to OFF. Everything is hardwired to the ATT gateway.
I just added a TP Link Deco X5700 into my home and realized that the StickUP cameras weren't connecting to WIFI, however I have a ring doorbell and some powered Ring cams that do connect. This is specifically for the StickUp Cams that lose connection.
After hours of trial and error, I figured out that the issue is the FAST Roaming. As soon as I toggle it to OFF the connection is restored, when I toggle to ON, the connection is lost specifically on those cameras.
I understand that some Ring camaras have issue with TP Link Fast Roaming setting, HOWEVER, I had just returned the Deco x60. And it worked perfectly! I had Fast Roaming ON and all the Decos in access point mode. I don't know why the x5700 doesn't work but the DecoX60 did. The reason I returned the Deco x60 is because I was getting stuttering on Twitch streams on Apple devices, but I think this might be APP related and not related to the Deco. Also I didn't really need a 3-pack and thought a 2 pack might be better. They were all about 18 feet from each other, and I wasn't sure if it was overkill.
That said, here are my questions:
- I just ordered the Deco x90 to see if there is a difference with Fast Roaming between x5700 and x90. My thought process is that if the Deco x60 worked. This might work. If everything fails, I'll go back to the x60 hoping that it works again (there is a chance it doesn't! and that something in the configuration caused everything to get messed up)
- How important is fast roaming? I understand the basics that the Decos decide when to do the switch, so if I turn it OFF, do I still get roaming? Example, on a ZOOM call and move close to one Deco to the other, is the handoff seamless as with fast roaming? Does fast means it just happens quicker? I can live without fast roaming if the handoff still works seamless even if it's slower.
Other thoughts are that I got the X5700 heavily discounted at Walmart. Not sure if being a first generation device or something along those lines can affect this and the Deco x90 might be newer and this is one of the things they fixed? Who knows.
Any help would be appreciated.
