tp link re450-v4 won't allow changing the extended network password

hello all, just a warning for anyone looking to buy the re450 wireless extender, and a question for anyone who's managed to get around this really, irritating problem!

the extender seems to have a really silly set up where the password for the extender is tied to the password of the host wifi network, very frustrating if like me i'm extending my parents wifi, all their devices are connected to it, so I can't change their password, but if only I could set my own password on my extender, to the same password as my old home router had, bam all my devices would connect, just like that. no idea why tp link has such a glaringly silly limitation in their firmware. anyone come across any way to get round this?
