I have a truck I'm preparing for winter and need help

Because im from the South, we don't have winter. Actually, I've never seen a foot of snow in my actual life. I will now, I'll be working in Columbus, Ohio for the next little bit.
1985 22r carbed 2wd. Everything for the most part is new or like it. I would love to know how you guys prepare your truck for optimal winter performance!
Also, off the cuff, where did you guys not pay 400 bucks for an AC compressor?
