Greetings Toyota Community. I am not pleased to announce the reculta of my random dealership visit tonight. I went to buy a drink at 711 in my Volkswagen TDI and carried on a few miles to Checkered Flag Toyota to do something you might want to say is crazy of normal drivers, but is second nature to hard-core car lovers. I checked out the new lineup. Since Toyota is the only one competing for worlds largest manufacturer besides my favorite- Volkswagen that is anywhere near a competitor you would consider when shopping for a new car, figured I would do the justice of auditing their quality. It was the middle of the night. I parked by a shrub and pointed at a random car on the lot and walked up to it. The first thing I noticed is the materials were weathering in the sun and appeared flimsy, except the front facade which looked plastic-heavy and "form more than function." I can't disqualify a car for looks, but somewhere along the driver's side I remarked the whole car didn't seem to be joined up properly. I couldn't put my finger on it until after I checked over the trunk area. The panel-gap between the rear window and the trunk lid was uneven from one side to the next. I avoid saying it was bent because I'm pretty sure the whole car was flat out not built straight about the longitudinal (RWD torque) axis or something. But it was frightening to think a car with zero miles had panels indented as bad as the one I saw here. It wasn't just fitted skewed. The whole panel was bent down. If you've ever seen a body panel edge gap pressed down that's what this seems to be. I continued my inspection and found erosion of paint on the trunk lid's opposite side in the cracks 🙄😱 there were paint errors from. The factory too. The rear passenger fender well carpet was fitted with improperly fitted screws at the interface between mud flap and fender, and the dashboard appeared to be build from cheap recycled cardboard. Somehow I can't square this.
