What's the best PVP gear\tactic?

Just trying to find a good deterrent and maybe do a little pest control. Server I play on has a lot of newbies, and keep inventory on, and they often try to steal suit from my bag. I am a melee class. Right now using a 10 ingot short great sword with phantom guard on a katana handle, it's alright but it's hard to catch them if they move too much, I was thinking about using gotera spores or Theravada eyes to slow them down.
What's your tactic?
