Why The Baam Zahard Theory Is Still Valid
Post Body

Hey guys, since I won't be on the Discord anymore, and I'm still obsessed about Tower of God itself, I'm going to be making more posts! Yay!

First, take a look at this link http://imgur.com/a/9Pfu7

This is the brunt of in-cannon information on the subject.

Essentially there are two prophecies/destinies going on. They are incredibly similar and that is a problem. The Real Zahard's prince is said to be the one to pass the Tower's Final Test. Secondly, as is recently revealed, Arlen's prophecy is that her child will be reborn, get the hidden key, and lead the tower to a higher place.

The obvious counters are that this is not exactly the same thing, higher place, and final test. For example you can reasonably argue/think that Baam will get the tower to 134 and that Wangnan, for argument's sake, will be the one to beat say floor 200 and complete the Tower's test.

This is completely valid, of course. I do not see the story this way because of:

  1. Wangnan, while the second season's protagonist, doesn't seem to be that important.

  2. I personally do not see these theories talking about different things. Arlen's whole war with Zahard starts because Zahard gives into lies/falsehood and stops climbing the tower. This implies they had a reason for entering, climbing, and reaching the top of the tower, probably from the Outside God, or some version of "truth".

  3. Continuing and doubling down on an earlier argument of mine, if Tower of God, which has, fundamentally, from the beginning, and in essence teased us about the "top" where everything is, and which supposedly gives reason and meaning to everything that has happened, is not achieved by our main character, Baam, I for one will be utterly disappointed and ripped off. It would just seem like we heard the wrong persons story, in my opinion.

Now, moving on to the next screens. We know that Garam is hiding a secret from Baam. That the story about him is only a small part of the secret truth to his existence, and that to tell him this secret truth now would be irresponsible to the point of potentially ruining him. When you're telling someone the one who gave birth to him, isn't even exactly a mother, since you were resurrected by God's power after being a corpse for years, that everything that has happened to you has been "fate", and FUG's plan, and that she wants you to take responsibility for all of this, i.e. while she respects your right to choose, she clearly is trying to influence you onto a certain anti-zahard side, and there's still something you're hiding that could wreck someone, it can't be any such small thing! Run on sentences aside, this is a serious issue. Zahard being your father after all of this, the rest of the story considered, would be enough, in my estimation, to warrant not telling Baam.

Finally for the cannon side, it's weird how Arlen is definitively stated as the Mother but as for 'V', he's just "named" after him? In the first place, it's highly unusual, though not unprecedented, with the case of Eurasia Enne Zahard, for a child to be named under the maternal side, "Grace", and even more hard to believe as a "male descendant". Excuse me if I sound sexist, but, it just doesn't fall under an incredibly pervasive custom and norm, for the father's side of it, seemingly a "first name in V/Viole" to become just a middle name in his child. To me it's like they are saying, he may not be your biological father, but he is my husband and the one who will be your father.

Secondly, on this point, I don't see too much of a resemblance between 'V' and and Jyu. To me 'V' looks far more similar to Karaka(which has to do with another crack theory I've been thinking up), or Hatsu, than our boy Baam. Granted he certainly takes after Arlen and not Zahard or V, in either case, but still. Just my opinion.

It's also weird that Arlen seemed to have grieved alone, and when killing himself, V, only mentions his grief about her state, and what to do with her. One would think, that as a father, who like Grace, knows of the Truth/Outside God, that he'd be desperate to do anything to find a way to bring back is Magickly preserved son back to life, instead of giving into despair and only for Arlen's sake.

Onto the non-cannon, circumstancial stuff.

If you check out Zahard's profile here, you'll see that it is rumored that Zahard has or will have an only son. Now the whole point of the princess system is for him to have a child, however, as you've seen he rigged that system to specifically "not" be forced to have a child with his heart still set on Arlen. Finally on this point, as we've seen, the voice and Gustang, at least, have reason to believe/know that the "real" prince, is already alive. To be honest, they're incredibly trustworthy as far as secret/legit knowledge goes.

And to wrap it all up, this recently asked question by /u/EternET

"If Grace Mirchea Luslec believes Baam is V.and Arlen's son, the boy of prophecy etc... Then why didn't they (FUG) all tell him the story (first), and why does he tolerate a part of the group trying to kill Viole (then rending the prophecy impossible)?"

This could be at least partially answered, if Jyu Viole Grace, is not the biological son of his guy 'V'. He could me more sympathetic to 'V''s side of things than Arlen's, with the mentality of if this boy is the boy of destiny that we really have to put our hopes on, let him prove it.

Random Note I just thought of. An old argument against baam as true prince was that "he's just too weak" at the start. Him dying, having to be resurrected, and being infused with the power of God actually answers that problem incredibly well.

Anticipated arguments and their counters:

  1. 'You're crazy. Just give up. It's so obvious.' This is only an opinion of mine. It is not "fact". Just like "V" as father, is not "fact" despite your own beliefs. All I'm arguing is that the theory is "valid". Agree with it or don't, but don't just hate and flame irrationally without even understanding what I am actually saying. Thanks
  2. 'Blonde Hair=no=not true prince' Two things to this point. One, he's literally died. We've seen in other mediums, like for example 'Tokyo Ghoul', people's hair color changing for traumatic reasons. Secondly, as I said in either case it's obvious he takes after Arlen more.
  3. 'Baam as Zahard's Prince is cliche, and makes for a worse story' OKAY. I'm sorry you feel that way hugs
  4. 'But Arlen loved 'V' and chose him. Are you saying that...' Possibly. It's also possible, that like in many real life relationships, there was some cheating, one-night stands, mistakes, or romantic love for more than one person. Monogamy is a great theory. Humans are more practical.

TL;DR 1. Gustangs True/Real Prince of Zahard prophecy and Arlen's prophecy are nearly identical. 2. V is conspicuously not mentioned as his father, in contrast to Arlen. 3. Jyu Viole Grace is a weird middle/last name combo for a son to have. 4. We know that Garam is hiding a part of the truth that Baam will find himself if he keeps going on the "right" path, but that if she were to tell him now would wreck him. 5. All the previous things to support Baam Zahard theory i.e. Eyes on the cave. Wangnan being a "mistake"/"red light district prince" etc.
