Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I get the impression that “Aww, Drumheller” is a pretty well-liked episode among the fanbase. Personally, I don’t understand it.
First things first; I think the song is a bit of a stinker when compared to the others in the season. This is probably an unpopular opinion, and being wedged between Condor and I’m Gonna Make It probably didn’t help, but I’m just not too keen on this song. All it really is is Al and Heather bickering in song form and I think it just falls a little flat for me.
Second of all, it’s yet another episode where not enough is done with Cody. This episode could’ve been a good one for developing Cody and Heather’s dynamic, having a full episode where the ever-suffering pianist gets a break from being used as complete torture porn via Sierra. Honestly, I’d have him be the one that helps Heather get out from under the boulder. Have their dynamic come full circle into a clear and genuine friendship heading into the final three. But no, Cody’s relegated to torture porn victim yet again.
Finally, and my biggest problem with this episode; Sierra should not have been forgiven in the slightest by Cody. I don’t care how nice it feels to have someone remember your birthday, it doesn’t excuse the 20 episodes of abuse and making you out as the villain when she doesn’t get what she wants. Honestly, I’d have eliminated Sierra the episode prior, and make this a reward challenge. But no, Sierra gets away with everything she did to Cody, with the only times the writers ever acknowledging that she’s in the wrong being the rare times when Heather would talk to a Cody that was living life in constant fear and giving him some comfort.
Well, that may have been a bit long, but in the words of Porky Pig;
That’s all folks!
