Some key Jays players underperforming this year but they didn’t have much fun getting those 89 wins.
Shapiro summed it up at his presser by saying, “ This season was a grind. It was not ever easy. It was extremely frustrating and it was challenging and I’m not sure why.”
He thinks they need to better “explain the process”. How about helping the misguided players? The players decided to ditch the home run jacket celebration. Remind them that fun is vital to success. But is it part of the process? Does it need to be? Can fun exist without “the process”?
The Phillies were not doing so well at the start of the year. Here’s an excerpt from MLB.com that shows how the players viewed their approach. It makes no mention of a “process” but it shows that injecting fun amongst players is an intangible that eludes stats. It’s the difference between winning and losing imo.
“Stubbs, Schwarber, Realmuto and Trea Turner were golfing in early July when they talked about a new base-hit celebration.
Why discuss such nonsense between putts? Because if you know the Phillies, you know they believe in good times and good vibes. They have a song and “Phils Win” playlist. They have home run traditions. They have base-hit celebrations.”
