Hi, my name is Talyor (fake name) and I am a toolaholic. I am a woodworking hobbyist with a fairly complete workshop. I am however missing an air compressor. I have googled what I should need in terms of CFM, PSI, tank size, motor size, and oil vs. oil-free, but I continue to get conflicting information. I do not want to spend an arm and a leg, as I have been prone to purchase more tool than I needed in the past.  Â
I only intend on using it for running a single tool at once, such a nail gun, spray gun for painting small to medium sized projects, and the ever-useful blowing of wood dust/shaving in those stubborn to get to places. Also, would be nice to be able to air up a car tire from time to time.  Â
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
100% just get a small and quiet California air tools compressor and avoid a big stationary one.
Make sure to get one with the motor in between two compressor cylinders. This type of pump is very quiet and efficient, no belts to wear out, and the pumps are 180 out of phase on a 4 pole 1800rpm motor. Also, they are wide bore, short stroke and oil free.
I'm a pro woodworker and metal worker in NYC and space and noise are always a concern.
I have 3 in various sizes, but honestly I use the smallest and cheapest one the most. The 1hp 2gal modelcan easily keep with 2 of my siding nailers. For spraying, an hvlp turbine is so much better with it's warm dry air vs a compressed air gun.

I have a Fuji 3 stage turbine with their gravity feed gun. I use it when I need a really nice finish on certain high end projects, but honestly I would never use a sprayer for my own use, lol. I would much rather use a brush or roller.
