Do billboard hot 100s really legit/ actually matter?

Post Body

I like exploring new songs and once in a while dabble around billboard lists to figure out new artists or new songs from familiar artists. I gotta say I did find some good music and my favourite artists from there.

But in recent times it's just a few artists on the top over and over again. For example I saw more than a dozen songs of Drake on the hot 100 list and more or Iess 40-50% of the songs are by a select few. I don't say that they're bad. They do produce good music. But are they that great? Music industry has never been bigger with new artists and bands rising up everyday. There are thousands of artists actively producing music but how come only a select few dominate the Billboard list continuously?

Or is the music taste of the majority gotten stale or something?

I don't think I'm the first person to have this thought. This question may have come up quite a lot too. But it's just boggling my mind alot.
