Is it wrong or not appropriate to use ASL to someone who’s hearing impaired if we don’t know how to use it fluently?
Post Body

Some background info. I was at work yesterday and a father and son who were both deaf came and ordered a slice by pointing to the pizza and showing two fingers. I knew he was deaf because I had served him before. His son and him were both signing back and forth while I was getting his food. I used to know sign language and when it came time to give his food and say thank you they both signed to me saying thank you and when I went to go do it back I stopped midway feeling awkward as if I shouldn’t be. Is it wrong to sign back if I don’t fluently know ASL or know how to sign most things anymore? I feel like it could be seen as mockery.
