I'm a huge film enthusiast and I'm as pretentious and cynical as they come. My question stems from a recent experience I had, but really this comes from something I've felt for a long time
I went to a theatrical showing of David Lynch's Eraserhead at a nearby theater a few weeks ago. I was super excited, as I've seen the movie multiple times, but never on the big screen. In the moments leading up to the movie, the theater completely filled out.
Now don't get me wrong. I am very happy to see others love and support the same things that I do, however, when they start opening their mouths and spewing the crap out that I, myself, have probably said at some point, I get extremely irrated. It likely stems from self-loathing, I know.
FEDORA GUY ON DATE WITH GIRL BEHIND ME: "der let me tell you about every lynch movie i have seen and about my profound understanding of them which is so much deeper than anyone else's limited understanding of them. I'll talk over you the whole time and won't let you speak at all."
HIP DUDE WITH FRIENDS TO THE RIGHT OF ME: "i was so high when i first watched this guys. So high. I'm going to repeat to u how high i was for all of the lynch movies i have seen over and over again as loudly as possible."
PATRON OF THE ARTS CAT LADY TO MY LEFT: "you know, many people misunderstand dAvId's true intention behind this piece. They think it's about fatherhood and domesticity, but I actually know that it's about...(insert verbal diarrhea)"
OLDER LONELY MAN IN FRONT OF ME TALKING TO YOUNGER COUPLE HE JUST MET: "i saw this one in theatres and that one in theatres and my experience is more validated than anyone else's in this place... Yadda yadda yadda."
I know I just sound like an asshole complaing about this, but I figured that's what this subreddit is for. Another somewhat related topic is my frustration with overhearing people having the same topical conversations over and over and over again in public places. "Der James Gunn got fired by Disney blar blar blar. These scooters are everywhere and it's causing a problem fart noise. Pineapple should not be on pizza flerp flap!" That's another thing though...
Again, sorry I'm so negative. It's just who I am.
