Is this like an American/British fear?
It was the 2015 Vice article that criticized young American women putting on red bindis at Coachella and Lollapalooza that really sort of made my head scratch.
I feel like everywhere around the world people playfully embrace different cultures. Even when it's done superficially, I never seen any hostility.
I mean don't so many Westerners celebrate Chinese new year? Even if it's superficially like a Google Doodle.
Didn't Mozart and Beethoven experiment with Turkish techniques?
Didn't basically all of Europe imitate Versailles culture for like 100 years?
Didn't many Italian maritime cities appropriate the Hindu-Arabic numerals during their mediterranean voyages?
Or how about when the Germanic tribes appropriated Roman culture?
Everybody takes something from each other.
