Why are sex and alcohol normalised but people use euphemisms when talking about them?

Sex and alcohol aren't rude or offensive words but people use the word drink to refer to alcohol and the phrase sleep with when discussing sex.
I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that you consume alcohol or have sex with people when almost everyone does it.
