I’m writing this because like many people on this thread, I was super scared to go through the recovery because of the many horror stories I had heard. I was very terrified of bleeding and what that would look like.
My recovery was pretty smooth. I’m an 18 year old male college athlete in pretty good shape, yet I was still very scared.
Day 0 was surgery day, felt no pain Day 1-4 got worse every day, but still manageable with the pain meds. I actually ate Taco Bell on day 2. Day 5-6 were the worst. Day 5 was on Christmas and I was in so much pain I couldn’t eat anything. Day 6 was even worse. Day 7-13got better every day, by day 10 I was eating full meals with slight pain. It took me a long time to eat because I had to thoroughly chew my food and take very small bites, as well as wash every sip down with water. Day 14-15 (current day) had been back to normal completely. I started lifting weights again and going for runs. I started eating normally and hanging out with friends until 3 am. I even went to the casino 2 hours away one night, then went on a hike 2 hours away the next day. Overall it has been a very easy experience, I didn’t bleed once, not even blood in my spit. The worst part was the pain but it honestly flew by and felt like it was a very short recovery. I’d recommend anyone thinking about getting a tonsillectomy to get it. It might be scary but as long as yo take it easy for the first week and eat as much food as you can tolerate, drink plenty of water, sleep a lot, and sleep with a humidifier then you’ll be alright.
