Should I or shouldn’t I?
Post Body

Hey all. I’m a 45 year professional guy and it took me my whole life to actually get to the gym. I was always so intimidated by it, didn’t know where/how to begin. Then I found an app that walked me through it and I have found that measurement and prescribed regimen I really what I respond to best. So I’m proud that I’m on my 7th month of this new habit with 3-4 workouts per week and some yoga here and there.

That said, my job is busy and I’m about to start a doctoral program, so managing my time more effectively is now essential. Getting to the gym at a specific time to avoid the busy times has become challenging but I’m still managing. I’m very concerned about losing ground and momentum.

I’ve been reading up a lot on Tonal as an option to replace the gym. I love all that I am reading as I’m someone who responds well to coaching and measurement systems. I love the AI driven scoring and regimen development. But as someone who has only been actively working out for 7 months, I don’t yet understand my psychology. Am I finally working out after 45 years because I like going to the gym, or because I found an app that helps me demystify it? I know that seeing my gains, both in my program and my physical results, have been very motivating to me.

Other enticing features for me include the option for multiple profiles, buddy mode and the personalization. I enjoy working out with my son (19) and I’m trying to get my wife interested. However, the last thing I want to do is spend $4k plus $50/month and then lose the habit and not use it.

I’ve enjoyed reading all your posts and I appreciate the time you take to share. If anyone has any insights to share, advice, suggestions, etc. I’d be grateful.

Thank you.
