So my party had an encounter with some (5) Eblise, and after about half the party (3 of the 6 lvl 5 PCs) got locked down with a hypnotic pattern spamming from the birds. the party was sure they were about to die. Context, they just came from a high intrigue, low combat run of dragon heist, so working on getting them used to things fighting back.
I decided to have some fun with it and play up the arrogant wiles of the birds. The eblise promised them some undefined reward, and the lives of the party, if they could capture and bring back a chwinga.
This was meant to be a wild goose chase for the evil Eblise to get a laugh, but a random encounter roll lead to them catching the interest of chwinga. Ok, guess weāll take the opportunity to introduce them to chwingas. So over the course of the next few days the party wakes up to tiny braids in their hair, or being covered in sea shells or flowers, maybe a cool breeze cutting through the heat of the night during watch. Just some cute stuff to have fun and get them curious.
Well, then one night, while a couple of our more chaotic PCs were taking first watch, they rolled a nat20 against some dog crap rolls on my part, and spotted the chwinga in the camp.
I tried to make it sound as cute, harmless and curious as possible, but they sprung into action. Some how, even with the 7 acrobatics on the chwinga, our -1 str wizard managed to grapple the chwinga, and through a long string of truly awful roles on my part, and great ones on his, my party now has a chwinga stuffed in a sack. Mind you our fighter tried to do ānon-leathalā punch-it-in-the-face damage, but only managed to punch the wizard.
Thatās where our last session ended, and while it was hilarious and a great comedy of errors, Iām not really sure what to do with this going forward. How hard should I have it try to escape? itās just a cloth sack and the chwinga can produce enough fire to get out, or use some other trick. And if it does escape, what might be the consequences of pissing off a chwinga?
Good times :P
