I was wondering what other folks did with parties that return to the city later.

I have a few ideas:

• The party is returning via the webway of ubtao, using a portal at orolunga to a portal at the bottom of wyrmheart mine, which I, in a quick decision, have moved to the closest mine to port nyanzaru, a couple hexes away. They are currently trying to escape WH mine now, under fire from kobolds, and are soon to encounter tinder.
• One of my players who had to leave the campaign due to work scheduling, is now able to return. I had narrated her death to assassin vines, but it's easy enough to say she came to days later, her party gone, assuming she died. She managed to get back to the city and her sister, with whom she'd been staying before the campaign.
• The city has been attacked by a massive wave of undead, resulting in old city and and malar's throat to be completely over-run and ravaged. The undead managed to break through into the city proper, but were eventually subdued by the Zhentarim city guards, with the "assistance" of the Flaming Fist, who used their resulting superior numbers to seize control of parts of the city.
• 3 merchant princes are dead (Jessamine (death curse), Zhanthi (assassinated by kwayothe) and Jobal (undead uprising), wakanga is under arrest at fort beluarian, and the remaining three (kwayothe, ifan talroa and Ekene-Afe) are trying to maintain order/seize power and their forces clash in the streets often.

What did your parties get into when they returned to PN after level 1/2?
