Trying to find Tarot card numbers:
There's a reversed 4 next to Kaneki's head. This is the reversed Emperor, reverse of authority, discipline, and being an ultimate ruler.
A bit beneath that and to the right though, almost blending in with the background is an upright 7. It has the characteristic 7 hash through it, so I think it may not be a coincidence. Seven is the Chariot, and it can mean that victory is possible through self-mastery and willpower...
Posted this in the chapter discussion but someone told me to post it for more people to see.
Also, I saw other rough sketches of numbers, including the 11 on Kaneki's chest/heart, but these were the two most significant ones I saw on that panel of his loss.
Crap. I think I may have noticed something else. The very last panel with Kaneki, his mouth forms a reversed 2 and above that is a reversed 1. They're drippy and spaced apart on his face, but I think the outline of their forms and just where they are (at the very end of the Chapter) are significant tells to it being purposeful. That's a freaking reverse 21, the last of the tarot meaning that Kaneki has not conquered his world and come to the final point in his development as he should be by OEK point and after chapter 86. I don't know if this is meant to be that Tarot or not, just with the nature of how the tarots in this manga are shown and Ishida, but I think it's a definite possibility. If that's the case, I just hope it can be re:reversed.
Chapter 144 Update: Hell yeah. The upright 7 was spot on. Now let's hope we fix that 21.
